Some customers want to prepay for energy

A surprising number of households would welcome the opportunity to pay in advance for their electricity. The study, conducted by marketing group EcoAlign and reported by Sustainable Business, found such a plan could also benefit utilities, as long as prepayment is voluntary. The poll found more than half already prepay for something and 42 percent are at least somewhat interested in prepaying for electricity, too. Among their reasons for wanting to prepay, they want more control over their bills and to avoid surprises. But the benefit for utilities is that of the consumers said prepayment would cause them to be much more active in conserving energy. The most interest comes from renters and younger people.
